When it comes to digital game purchases, one of the most frequently asked questions by users is about refund processes. Refund requests for games, content, or subscriptions purchased via the PlayStation Store used to be more complex, but they can now be handled much more easily. With Sony’s latest update, players can initiate refund requests directly from their accounts. So how does the new system work, and under what conditions can you return your games? Here are the details.

What Has Changed in the Refund Process via the PlayStation Store?

Previously, the refund process required contacting PlayStation’s customer support team. Users typically had to go through a lengthy approval process via chatbots or customer service representatives.

With the new update, this process has largely become self-service. Now, by logging into your PlayStation account and selecting the relevant purchase from the “Transaction History” section, you just need to click on the “Request a Refund” button. This allows you to initiate the refund request much faster and in a more user-friendly way.

What Are the Basic Refund Rules?

Even though the refund process has been simplified, the existing core rules have not changed. Here’s what you need to know:

Games and DLCs

  • Can be refunded within 14 days of purchase, as long as downloading or streaming has not begun.

Pre-orders

  • If pre-ordered more than 14 days before release, it can be canceled at any time before launch.
  • If ordered within 14 days of release, a refund is available within 14 days from the purchase date.

Subscriptions

  • Can be refunded within 14 days, but a partial refund is issued based on the number of days used.

Wallet Top-ups

  • Not refundable.

Discounted Bundles

  • If none of the bundle content has been downloaded, it can be refunded within 14 days.

Outside of these rules, in cases of technical issues or product defects, local consumer rights may also apply.

How to Submit a New Refund Request via the PS Store?

To use the new refund system, simply follow these steps:

  1. Log into your PlayStation Store account.
  2. Go to the “Transaction History” section from the menu.
  3. Select the game or content you want to refund.
  4. Click on the “Request a Refund” option.
  5. Follow the prompts to complete your request.

Once these steps are completed, your request is automatically processed, and if necessary, you’ll be directed to the support team.

Processing Time and Payment Method

Once a refund request is approved, the refund is typically processed within 10 days. Refunds are primarily issued to the original payment method. However, in some cases where that isn’t possible, the amount may be transferred directly to your PSN wallet.

What Does the PS Store Refund Convenience Offer to Players?

With this latest update to the PlayStation Store, players can now request refunds much more easily. No more long discussions with customer service — refund requests can now be started directly from your account. However, it’s important not to forget that the existing refund rules still apply. That means the 14-day window and the requirement that no download or streaming has started are still valid.
