What is the Techno-Startup Badge?
The Techno-Startup Badge is an official certification system issued by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. It serves as proof that a startup has a technology and innovation-oriented, scalable business model. The purpose of this badge is to strengthen the ecosystem of such startups in Türkiye and to increase their visibility. Managed by the Directorate General of National Technology, the process validates the technological and innovative potential of the applicant. The badge is a critical tool for recognizing innovation-driven startups.
Requirements for Techno-Startup Badge Application
To apply for the Techno-Startup Badge, startups must meet certain criteria established by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. These main requirements include:
- Being a sole proprietorship or capital company established in Türkiye
- Having been established no more than 15 years ago
- Having SME status and an independent structure
- Operating with a technology and innovation-based, scalable business model
- Having received support under a recognized program such as TÜBİTAK 1512 - Individual Young Entrepreneurship (BiGG) or the Investment-Based Entrepreneurship Support Program (BiGG Investment)
Startups that meet these conditions are eligible to apply for the badge.
Application and Evaluation Process
The Techno-Startup Badge application and evaluation process is managed by the Directorate General of National Technology.
Application Steps
Applications are submitted through the electronic platform designated by the Ministry of Industry and Technology. During the application, startups must provide documents detailing their business model, technological and innovative infrastructure, and scalability potential. This step is an opportunity to demonstrate that the business operates on a scalable, technology and innovation-driven model.
Evaluation Process
The Directorate General of National Technology examines the submitted documents. If any deficiencies are found, the applicant is notified. If the applicant does not complete the missing parts within 15 working days, the application is terminated. The evaluation is carried out by a relevant commission and must be concluded within 90 days of the application date. If the application is rejected, the startup can reapply no earlier than six months later. If successful, the startup is awarded the Techno-Startup Badge.
Validity and Renewal of the Techno-Startup Badge
Startups that are granted the badge must be aware of its validity period and the renewal process.
Validity Period
The badge is valid for three years from the date of issuance. During this period, the rights granted with the badge remain in effect. After this period, the badge expires unless renewed.
Renewal Process
The renewal application must be submitted within six months prior to the expiration date. During renewal, it is verified that the startup has maintained its technological and innovative capacity and continues to progress in accordance with its business goals and structure. The renewal process is also overseen by the Directorate General of National Technology. The badge remains a vital document for the sustainability of such startups.
